Hello! My name is Trish Cortés and I am a portrait, lifestyle, and event photographer. The first spark to light my photography fire was when my dad taught me to use his 1987 Nikon SLR when I was a kid. I will never forget how heavy the body and telephoto lens were and the moment depth of field first "clicked" for me (I still have that camera in my collection!). The internal fire for photography grew in high-school when I learned to develop black and white photos as editor in chief of my school's yearbook. At a bookstore with friends, I came upon a book of Arno Rafael Minkkinen's photography, and that fire inside me combusted - in that moment I decided I was going to be a photographer.
I majored in Studio Art with an emphasis is photography, drawing, and painting. I began my career as an art teacher, in which I have devoted nearly twenty years to teaching children photography and many other art forms. I recieved my Master's in Art Education and also have a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in photography & painting.
I love photography. I love cameras. I love light, color, contrast. I see the world through unique eyes and my camera allows me to capture that unique point of view. Photography excites me and with my camera in hand, I feel rooted. The dark room is my personal oasis (yes, I still work with film as well as digital!).
I am a lover of many other things and when I am not photographing or teaching, I can be found gardening, knitting, cooking, baking, doing yoga, kayaking, hiking, bird watching, throwing pottery, making, reading...but mostly spending time with my two children (River and Juniper), husband (Nick), dog (Gallagher), and backyard chicken flock.
